Job Description


What You'll Do

  • Optimize Oracle database performance through compression techniques, query tuning and indexing strategy — with a focus on ExaCC CPU efficiency, storage cost reduction and I/O efficiency;
  • Fine-tune Oracle CPU allocation algorithms on ExaCC to maximize the used/allocated ratio and minimize waste;
  • Optimize backup and recovery processes for Oracle ZFS and ZDLRA appliances, ensuring reliability and cost-effectiveness;
  • Lead and support key projects, including migration to Kerberos authentication and Oracle Client upgrades;
  • Guide development teams on best practices for database design, SQL coding, performance and scalability;
  • Perform root cause analysis on performance incidents and complex database issues escalated from infrastructure partners;
  • Enforce access management, TDE encryption, auditing controls and audit-quality documentation;
  • Contribute to multi-platform environments (Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Synapse) where relevant;
  • Collaborate with infrastructure partners, development teams and project stakeholders across initiatives.

Qualifications

What You'll Need

  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or comparable technical field;
  • 5-10 years of hands-on experience with Oracle databases in production environments;
  • Proven expertise in performance tuning, compression and resource optimization;
  • Hands-on experience with ExaCC, ZFS and ZDLRA is a strong plus;
  • OS knowledge: Linux and/or Unix (primary), Windows (secondary).

Technical Skills

  • Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM); SQL and PL/SQL scripting (must);
  • ExaCC CPU optimization, compression techniques, query tuning, Exadata awareness;
  • Kerberos authentication and Oracle Client upgrades;
  • Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), auditing & compliance controls;
  • Azure SQL or PostgreSQL, Azure Synapse or DB2 — knowledge is a plus;
  • Tools: Oracle SQL Developer, Toad for Oracle,
  • Following Tools are a plus: Jenkins, UrbanCode Deploy, Qlik Replicate, Git/Bitbucket, ServiceNow, Jira, DBeaver;
  • Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) or equivalent certification is a plus.

Profile & Other Requirements

  • Professional English C1 (spoken and written) — mandatory;
  • Strong collaboration skills — comfortable working with infrastructure partners, development teams and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Structured problem-solving mindset; ability to communicate technical findings clearly;
  • Generalizing-specialist profile — open to working across multiple database technologies;
  • Experience in regulated environments (e.g., financial services) is a strong plus;
  • Lisbon/Portugal-based — hybrid working model.
